PPV Review: Halloween Havoc 1998
Back in the day, my friends and I loved to order the WCW PPV's....and we were always bitter and five bucks poorer...except Danny...he "never had the money" until weeks later....so to relive the pain, there will be a new feature each week...The Pay Per View Review....today, I am going to take a look at WCW Halloween Havoc 1998...put down all weapons and sharp instruments..
First thing...as Omp once said..hey they stole his spin cycle for the props....There was a ghoulish figure holding on to giant pumpkin..and that might have been the best part of the night.
The night was hyped up because Warrior and Hogan were going to wrestle and DDP was challenging the undefeated Goldberg for the title...it should have been great...
lets get to Tony Schiavone for the action...
The first match was not bad as Chris Jericho beat Raven, but it was bad after that...can someone tell me what Wrath and Lodi were doing on a PPV...why did Disco Inferno have to win a match to get a title shot....that made us watch him twice. I guess I shouldnt complain, WCW did give us 12 matches, so that wasnt bad...but lets get to what we want to see...
Warrior vs Hogan....a match 8 years in the making...the first time the two met, it was an epic clash..title for title at Wrestlemania 6. After 30 minutes (thankfully this one wasnt as long) the Ultimate Warrior had the unthinkable happen, Hogan jobbed at Wrestlemania....the future of wrestling was bright....not so much for this match.
Before this match started, Warrior played mindgames with Hogan...severed heads, being in a mirror where Hogan and the audience could see the Warrior, but not Bischoff. This was better than the match...there were about 3 moves in the match. The highlight was Hogan trying to throw a flame in the Warrior's eyes...after trying to light it for a minute with Warrior just standing there clueless, Hogan finally got it to light and hit the Warrior in the face. Hogan went on to get the pinfall...I went on for therapy....
The main event...the match we were looking for...DDP and his 2 million ways to apply the diamond cutter according to Mike Tenay against Goldberg, the undefeated champ...in true WCW style, the PPV cut off one minute into the match and everyone wondered all night who was the champ....well fortunately for us losers who bought the PPV, WCW showed the match in its entirety to start of WCW Monday Nitro...I am sure WCW refunded some of the PPV money right, wrong...all we got was a keychain...which I didnt get....I hate you Halloween Havoc 1998.
